Procedures

After cancer treatment or previous surgery, some patients are left with differences in size or shape. Rajiv offers techniques such as therapeutic mammoplasty, mastopexy, perforator flap and contralateral symmetrisation to achieve balance and improve confidence.

Breast-Conserving Surgery

Many women with breast cancer can avoid mastectomy. Rajiv specialises in complex oncoplastic techniques that remove the cancer while reshaping the breast, aiming to preserve a natural appearance.

This may involve:

  • Lumpectomy (removal of the tumour with a margin of healthy tissue)
  • Therapeutic mammoplasty (removal and reshaping in one procedure)
  • Perforator flap surgery (using your body’s own tissue to fill a lumpectomy defect)
  • Lipofilling/ Fat grafting (liposuction of fat from the tummy/buttocks/thighs to fill a lumpectomy defect)
  • Balancing procedures to maintain symmetry

Mastectomy

For some cancers, mastectomy may be the safest or preferred treatment. Rajiv offers skin- and nipple-sparing approaches where appropriate, with a focus on restoring confidence through reconstructive options.

Approaches include:

  • Skin-sparing or nipple-sparing mastectomy
  • Immediate reconstruction at the same time as mastectomy
  • Delayed reconstruction, discussed when treatment is complete

Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction restores shape after cancer surgery. Rajiv offers implant-based and oncoplastic reshaping techniques, along with symmetrisation procedures to balance both breasts. Where desired, nipple reconstruction can also be performed as part of the restorative process, either at the same time or as a later stage.

Options include:

  • Implant-based reconstruction

  • Oncoplastic reshaping techniques

  • Symmetrisation surgery to balance both breasts

  • Nipple reconstruction using surgical or tattoo techniques

Symmetry Surgery

Following cancer treatment, some women are left with differences in breast size or shape. Rajiv offers balancing procedures to help restore confidence and comfort.

Procedures may involve:

  • Reduction of the larger breast

  • Uplift (mastopexy) to improve shape and position

  • Augmentation of the smaller breast to match size

Breast Reduction & Uplift Surgery

Heavy or drooping breasts can cause physical discomfort, postural strain and difficulty with daily activities. Rajiv offers breast reduction and uplift surgery to improve comfort, balance and breast shape.

This may involve:

  • Breast reduction to relieve symptoms such as back, neck or shoulder pain
  • Breast uplift (mastopexy) to improve breast position and contour
  • Reshaping to improve symmetry and proportion
  • Combining reduction or uplift with other procedures where appropriate

Surgery is carefully planned to achieve a natural result while prioritising function, comfort and long-term outcomes.

Corrective Breast Surgery

Some patients experience changes in breast shape, discomfort or complications following previous breast surgery. Rajiv offers corrective breast surgery to address these concerns and improve both comfort and appearance.

This may involve:

  • Revision of previous surgical scars or breast shape
  • Correction of asymmetry following earlier breast surgery
  • Management of implant-related complications, including capsular contracture
  • Adjustment or removal of implants where appropriate

Care is taken to understand the original surgery, current symptoms and patient goals before recommending the most appropriate corrective approach.

Axillary Surgery

To stage breast cancer accurately and guide treatment, lymph node surgery may be required. Rajiv performs this with care to minimise side effects.

This may involve:

  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy (removal of the first draining node)
  • Axillary clearance where disease has spread further
  • Targeted axillary surgery to minimise risk of lymphoedema
  • Use of national guidelines to avoid unnecessary surgery
